Winestyr Founders Announce Upcoming Launch of Site

Winestyr, a new Chicago-based company, recently secured an undisclosed amount of seed funding from wine industry veterans and has its sights set on changing the way Americans discover wine.  Founders John and Bob Wilson, along with their father, Jack, and friend Scott Washburn have conceived a means to facilitate a direct relationship between consumers and wineries. is slated to launch late-November.

Through Winestyr, consumers will be able to purchase wines they want, directly from wineries of their choice.  Subscribers will have the opportunity to learn about each featured winery and the wines they offer, making the site ideal for all degrees of wine enthusiasts.

“My father came up with the idea while we were spending a weekend at the family home in Southwestern Michigan, an area known for many local wineries,” explained Bob Wilson.  “There are so many rare and unnoticed wineries in the U.S., and we knew that there had to be a better way for consumers to discover them.  The goal of Winestyr is to do just that.”

Chicago area natives and childhood friends, the Wilson brothers and Washburn are all alumni of the University of Colorado at Boulder.  Following college, they each embarked on their own career paths.  John went into law, Bob spent a few years in the wine industry and Scott mastered the art of social purchasing at Groupon, where he launched the Orlando market.

“I’ve loved wine for as long as I can remember, so when Bob and Jack approached me with this idea I was very excited,” says Washburn.  “With Winestyr, I now have the opportunity to focus on one industry that I am very passionate about.  It’s a great fit and we truly believe that our platform will help wineries reach a fresh audience that is ready to purchase wine online.”

Bob teamed up with his brother and father to develop the business framework for Winestyr.  Washburn subsequently left Groupon for the role of Director of Sales and Business Development for Winestyr.
