OPENING SOON: COMPASS BAR

Compass Bar, a beer-centric restaurant and bar concept, is set to open in Lincoln Park this February.  Located at 433 West Diversey Parkway, Compass Bar will take over the current Tommy Knuckles space, and specialize in craft beer and woodfired pizzas.  Located just one block west of Diversey Harbor, the venue will also highlight a 38 seat outdoor patio.

“Our goal was to create a neighborhood bar with an extensive beer selection and great food,” said Owners Ryan See and Patrick Wrona. “We chose the name ‘Compass’ because we wanted the bar to have 180 bottled beers, representing 180 degrees on a compass. In addition, Compass Bar will add 20 tap handles, and consistently rotate them to showcase the best seasonal beers and newest breweries. While Compass Bar is focused on highlighting beer cultures from around the world, we’re also lucky that Chicago is such a large craft beer hub within the United States. With that said, we’ll be offering a wide range of craft beers from the greater Chicagoland area.”

While the beer menu will be centered on domestic craft beer, the bar hopes to find the best product available globally and will feature brands that represent the style and location of the breweries. In addition to their extensive beer selection, Compass Bar will offer a specialty beer cocktail list, and distinctive wines ranging from $9 to $11 by the glass.

To ensure the food is on par with the beer selection, See and Wrona have enlisted Chef Clint Walt. Walt is a graduate from Le Cordon Bleu here in Chicago. While attending culinary school he worked at “Catering Chocolate” for Chef Jay Shindler, where he was able to hone his skills in the culinary arts.  Walt eventually became Sous Chef, and then Lead Catering Chef.  Over the past four years he has served as Executive Sous Chef at Frasca Pizzeria and Wine Bar in Chicago, and Tapa La Luna.

Walt’s selection of wood fired pizzas will include:

  • Four Cheese with Fresh Mozzarella, Provolone, Goat Cheese, Parmesan, Tomato and Olive Oil
  • Caramelized Fennel and Onion, Red Grape, Herbed Ricotta, Goat Cheese and Fresh Mozzarella
  • BBQ Braised Pork Shoulder with Balsamic Caramelized Onions, Fresh Mozzarella and Provolone
  • Prosciutto with Confit Garlic, Fresh Mozzarella and Truffled Arugula
  • Pesto and Roasted Asparagus with Cherry Tomato, Red Onion, Goat Cheese, Fresh Mozzarella and Provolone

Compass Bar will be open Monday through Friday from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m, and offer a brunch menu on Saturday and Sunday starting at 11 a.m. Lunch will be forthcoming.
