Koi Hosts Northlight Theatre “The Whipping Man” Trip

KOI HOSTS NORTHLIGHT THEATRE THE WHIPPING MAN TRIP
Ticket Sales to benefit The Forest E. Powell Foundation

On Saturday, February 9, Koi will host an evening trip to the Northlight Theatre in Skokie for a production of The Whipping Man. The evening will begin at Koi, located in downtown Evanston, at 6 p.m. where guests are invited to gather and indulge in appetizers and drinks. Transportation will be included for the 8 p.m. show as well as a special post-performance Q&A session with the show’s writer and actors. Following the show, attendees will be brought back to Koi.

The Whipping Man is the story of three men, a Jewish Confederate solider and his two former slaves, who reunite after the Civil War. As they struggle to rebuild their lives in this post-war era, the men uncover a tangle of secrets that threaten their families and their shared faith. 

Tickets for the event are available on the Forest E. Powell Foundation website and are $100 per person. The price includes one drink ticket and passed appetizers at Koi before the show, transportation to and from the Northlight Theatre, tickets to the show, after show cookiesand a goody bag from Evanston Merchants. Ticket sales help to benefit the Forest E. Powell Foundation, an Evanston foundation that supports young men and women pursuing vocational studies with scholarships and guidance.

This February, Koi continues its monthly Sushi Chef’s Table series. Guests at the Chef’s Table are seated at the intimate sushi bar with a full view of Sushi Chef Kenny Tan’s work area and will experience the creative process first-hand as they are treated to eight courses. They will watch as their menu samplings are handcrafted, paired with sake and explained by Koi’s talented team. For added viewing, Tan’s deft knife skills and artistic talents will be shown via live camera feed on an HD screen above the sushi bar.

Koi Evanston Announces New Sushi Specials

KOI NEW SUSHI SPECIALS

Koi Evanston Gives Back to the Community

KOI GIVES BACK TO THE COMMUNITY
Monthly Charitable Donations 

WHAT: Koi, Evanston’s premier location for authentic Chinese food and fresh sushi, announces new efforts to get involved in the local community. Beginning this December, Koi will select a local charity each month to donate 1 percent of their proceeds from all edamame orders. Guests are also welcome to make donations at the hostess stand.

For December, Koi has selected Connections for the Homeless. Connections for the Homeless is an organization aimed at preventing homelessness and preserving community. Money raised goes to homeless prevention and housing, employment, outreach and support services.

In January, Koi will raise funds for Evanston Scholars. Evanston Scholars is a non-profit organization that helps a diverse group of underserved, academically ambitious Evanston students attend and graduate college. They offer workshops, mentors, college coaches and scholars to Evanston Township High School seniors each year. Last year, 100 percent of these students were accepted in 4-year colleges.

WHAT: This holiday season, Koi, Evanston’s premier location for authentic Chinese cuisine and fresh sushi, will take part in the Downtown Evanston Holiday Bash and Tree Lighting Celebration on Friday, November 16. The tree lighting begins at 5:30 p.m. in Fountain Square, just one block from Koi, and features Evanston Mayor Elizabeth Tisdahl.

That evening, Koi will open its doors to those participating in the festivities at 4 p.m. There will be live music from The Music Institute of Chicago including a flute choir and choral group, a jazz band and blues group. In addition, pianist Joey Conway will accompany opera singer Katy Taylor for a performance.

Patrons can indulge in Hot Chocolate for $2 and Spiked Hot Chocolate, made with Kahlua Gingerbread Liqueur or Kahlua Mint Liqueur, for $6. Select appetizers, like Spring Rolls, Shrimp Dumplings and Crab Meat Won Ton, will be on special for $2.50.
