NOW OPEN: MUNICIPAL BAR + DINING COMPANY

Located at 216 West Ohio in River North, Municipal Bar + Dining Company is now open. The upscale sports bar is inspired by the streets of Chicago, its architecture, and namely the Municipal Device, a “Y”-shaped, iconic emblem that denotes the city’s civic development. This mark, which represents the three branches of the Chicago River and where they meet at Wolf Point, is stamped on public buildings, bridges, and city vehicles. The interior emphasizes the diminutive details that comprise the iconic Midwest metropolis that residents call Sweet Home Chicago. Photos available upon request.

Municipal Bar + Dining Company will be open for lunch and dinner Monday through Friday beginning at 11 a.m., and for brunch on Saturday and Sunday beginning at 10 a.m. Late night dining will be available seven days a week.

The ownership team includes Managing Partner Sam Fakhouri and Managing Partner Chris Lardakis (owner of Kanela Breakfast Club). Former NFL Super Bowl champion and Chicago native Simeon Rice is also an investor. Simeon Rice has close ties to Illinois; he played as the outside linebacker at the University of Illinois. Municipal will be managed by General Manager, Marcus Cook, who most recently worked for Gibsons Restaurant Group where he spent the last three years at LUXBAR.

The Restaurant
Designed by Simeone Deary Design Group, the hip-casual, yet energetic space at Municipal is industrial and sleek with nods to steel city structures. Design elements include salvaged city relics, riveted metal and graphic layered wall murals of digitally reinterpreted EL train signs atop historic Chicago Street plans. The main bar captures the gritty streets of Chicago with a cement tops bar and wood slated backsplash. Furnishings and graphics contrast with a sleek, simple and modern form. Municipal Bar + Dining Company is outfitted with 35 flat screen TVs and offers seating for over 180 people.

The Menu
The industrial gastro-pub features a progressive American menu created by Executive Chef Jeffery Arasi. Known by many as “Jeff the Chef” he hails from the kitchens of New York’s fine dining scene (Imperial No. 9, Aureole, The River Restaurant at The Savoy Hotel in London where his kitchen cooked for the Queen of England). He will use his skill set of classical French techniques along with local ingredients to create a casual, yet refined menu complementing the upscale sports bar atmosphere.

Municipal serves specialty entrees, gourmet burgers, robust seasonal salads, and an assortment of side dishes and appetizers. The menu is designed with innovative combinations of ingredients and is designed to encourage sharing of small, medium, and large plates that offer something for every appetite. Menu highlights include a NY Strip and Short Rib Duo, Shrimp Cocktail, Buttermilk Chicken Wings, Falafel Fritters, Stuffed Mozzarella Meatballs, BBQ Chicken Flatbread, Lamb Shank, Pork Chop, Rueben Sandwich and more. Complete menu and photos available upon request.

Beverage Program
Municipal Bar + Dining Company features a broad selection of draft and bottled beers as well as locally brewed craft beers and a selection of wines. With an extensive cocktail program that is true to the bar’s city concept, signature cocktails will be named after Chicago neighborhoods. The cocktail menu will change frequently, highlighting artisanal spirits and seasonal ingredients. Cocktail highlights include the following:

Gold Coast, $11
Absolut, yellow chartreuse, peach ginger green tea, simple syrup, lemon juice, peach bitters, garnished with a lemon peel

Albany Park, $11
