Waterleaf Restaurant Monthly Cooking Classes

August: Weekend Brunch 

WHAT:          Waterleaf Restaurant in Glen Ellyn continues their monthly cooking classes led by Executive Chef Jean-Louis Clerc on Saturday, August 18. The class will feature cuisine perfect for a weekend brunch, including a Tomato and Homemade Chorizo Tart, Corned Beef Hash in Baked Potato Shells and more (see complete menu below). Chef Jean-Louis will guide participants through each step of the cooking process. Afterwards, guests will enjoy their creations at a communal table in the restaurant. Paired wine will be served for guests 21 and over. Class participants will also receive a Waterleaf apron and printed recipes so they can recreate the featured dishes at home.

Bar Umbriago Daily Specials

Featuring $5 Pizza and Half-Price Wine

Guests are invited to enjoy daily specials now available at Bar Umbriago, located at 6 West Hubbard Street in River North. Specials include $5 Pizza Tuesday with purchase of any two Italian Microbrews (dinner only). Pizza selections include Quattro Formaggi (four cheese) and Margherita. With nine selections available, Bar Umbriago features the second largest Italian beer menu in Chicago. The unique Italian microbrews are available by the bottle, naturally carbonated, and brewed with herbs and spices including ginger, green pepper, chamomile and more. The beers are imported from regions such as Rome, Sardinia, Turano, and Milan. The menu also features several award-winning varieties including Viaemilla, Sesonette and Extra Re Ale.

On Wednesdays, Bar Umbriago will feature Half-Price Bottles of Wine (excludes the reserved list). Half-price wine selections will consist of over 150 wines from all over the world including Concha y Terrunyo Sauvignon Blanc, La Ganghija Barbaresco, Sette Ponti Crognolo, Bodega Norton and more.

Friendship Chinese of Chicago Summer Specials

This summer, guests are invited to Friendship Chinese in Logan Square to enjoy their new $8.95 Tuesday entrée special.  Newly appointed Executive Chef Jackie Shen is currently revamping the menu at this neighborhood spot in efforts to incorporate her own personal cooking style while presenting new flavors, spices and seasonal ingredients.

Each Tuesday night, guests will choose from a variety of entrees at Friendship Chinese including Grilled Hong Kong Beef Tenderloin (grilled wok-tossed beef tenderloin with fresh greens), Boneless Peking Duck (one half oven roasted Peking duck topped with grand mariner sauce), Spicy Honey Glazed Chicken (in grand mariner sauce) and more.  Complete menu and entrée selections are available upon request.

Porter’s Pub Announces New Daily Specials

About Owners Anna and Ryan O’Donnell

Ryan O’Donnell, a chef at heart and a graduate of the culinary program at Kendall College Chicago, spent ten years in the kitchen before shifting his focus to roles in the “front of the house.”  Ryan gained experience as the Chef de Cuisine at Miraval, a five star spa resort near Tucson, Arizona and Keefer’s restaurant, where he worked in the kitchen before learning the operations side of the business in the dining room.  As General Manager/Partner of Gemini Bistro, O’Donnell has literally seen his culinary school business plan titled “Gemini Bistro” become a reality.


As residents of Lincoln Park, Paskewitz and the O’Donnell’s are proud to own and operate Gemini Bistro within their very own community.

Urban Union New Summer Menu and Chef’s Table


Taylor Street Restaurant Offers Unique Seasonal Items

Michael Shrader, chef/owner of Urban Union Restaurant on Taylor Street, is pleased to offer his seasonal, summer, artisan menu. Inspired by Chef Shrader’s time in Europe, the menu is created with French, Italian and Spanish cuisines in mind.

Shrader’s menu will feature such items as the Heirloom Tomato Salad (served with avocado, chile, lime and oregano; $10), Herb Goat Cheese Stuffed Squash Blossoms (served with cherry tomatoes, marcona almonds and parsley pesto; $10), Ricotta Gnocchi (served with good bacon, spinach, blistered tomatoes and parmesan; $11), Grilled Flank Steak (served with French roasted shallots and Bordelaise sauce; $13) and Wood Oven Roasted Duck Breast (served with farm fresh peaches and thyme; $14).

At the Chef’s Table, guests can enjoy communal seating near the open kitchen featuring a wood burning oven and acustom tailored menu from Chef Shrader.  Offered are four, six and eight course menus paired with wine.

The often changing menu at Urban Union exemplifies Shrader’s commitment of offering only the highest quality items, made in-house daily, using farm fresh ingredients and produce.  Shrader supports the Green City Market and the majority of his produce comes from local farms, including Nichols and Klug.  Guests can enjoy pairing dishes from an extensive wine list that includes 170 selections by the bottle, 30 wines by the glass, and from their one of a kind, hand milled stainless steel wine tap with six seasonal selections.

LM Restaurant Moves to River North


WHAT:         LM Restaurant located in Lincoln Square announces the move to the Felix Hotel in the month of August. The current location will remain open for service during all regular hours of operation through Thursday, July 19.


Since opening its doors in 2009, LM has been a French dining favorite in the Lincoln Square neighborhood and a destination for both local residents and those in Chicago’s surrounding areas.  “We are so pleased to have had the opportunity to establish LM in this neighborhood and are excited to bring our concept to River North,” say owners Stephan and Nicole Outrequin Quaisser.  “We are truly grateful for the wonderful community support we’ve had since day one and hope that our guests will continue to enjoy LM at the new space.”

LM Restaurant Group Celebrates Bastille Day

WHAT:          This month, the LM Restaurant Group, including Brasserie, LM and Troquet, invites Chicagoans to celebrate Bastille Day at each of their locations with an array of classic French cocktails on Saturday, July 14.


Brasserie by LM will toast the revolution with the classic, popular “Monaco” (grenadine, sprite, Heineken, $5). Guests can dine indoors or enjoy their cocktail on Brasserie by LM’s spacious Michigan Avenue patio.


LM in Lincoln Square will celebrate by featuring a signature French Rosé, Chateau Guiot (Grenache, Syrah, Costieres de Nimes, France; $7/glass, $25 /bottle).
