Table fifty-two Launches American South Wine List

TABLE fifty-two announces the launch of their exclusive Wines of the American South wine list just in time for the holiday season.  TABLE fifty-two’s menu pairs perfectly with these unique and hard-to-find wines produced in the American South including bottles from Georgia, Louisiana, Virginia, Texas, North Carolina and Kentucky.  Wines for the menu have been hand-selected and their Chicago distribution diligently pursued by Wine Director and General Manager Mark Gallagher.

As the American South is an emerging wine region, and many wineries only began harvesting within the last fifteen years, very few American wine enthusiasts have had the chance to taste even one of these wines, let alone enjoy the comprehensive cross-section of regions, varietals and styles this region offers. TABLE fifty-two is therefore delighted to bring these wines to the Chicago table, and to pair these selections with dishes from Chef Art’s regionally inspired menu. More information about winemaking in the American South below.

Gallagher says, “The idea to introduce Southern wines onto our list first came into my head while fishing on a pond in Ohio with my partner’s brother, who makes wine in Texas Hill Country. All of his wine knowledge, the amount of experimentation he’s gone through to find grapes that will survive the Texas heat, and his real passion for winemaking inspired me and made me wonder how wines from the terroir of the American South might speak to Chef Art’s food.”

Wines will include a 2010 Wolf Mountain Blancs des Blancs from Lumpkin County, Georgia which pairs wonderfully with the Pork Belly with White Bean Purée and Cippolini Onions; a 2009 Perissos Tempranillo from Texas Hill Country, Texas which complements the Duck Confit with Blackberries and Farina nicely; and a sweet finish of 2008 Elk Creek Vineyards Vidal Blanc Icewine from Kentucky with a decadent finish of Chef Art’s signature Hummingbird Cake.
